Juan Ramirez-- Thanks for writing! I'm not sure if I already responded or if the pandemic distracted me, but SMA is bursting with talented players of all genres, plus Mexico City ups that number significantly. Look me up when you're getting ready to come down--I also sell real estate for Christie's and I can show you what it's like to live here and of course we will play!

Robert Walker--thanks, I will check out that piece of music. You know where you can find my latest stuff--which if you like the old stuff, I think will please you very much--is at bluecoastmusic.com. Just search my name and you'll see four albums, including my newest, HYMN FOR HER. By the way, that CD you have, Jazz Au Lait, was something I created for a pharmaceutical company to use as a business gift. You've got a limited edition!

Harlan, how cool of you to take the time and for remembering the Twinkies! It was a pivotal experience for me, the first time I was free to compose (and co-compose with organist Keith Milne) for prog rock band with horns. What happened to John Marotti, by the way? I've looked for him but to no avail. By all means, check out my more recent music and I hope you'll enjoy it as well!

Hi Doug, I was a huge fan of the Twinkies. I would never miss one of your San Diego appearances. I too attended Crawford High School (same class as my old friend John Marotti). I even had an opportunity to come to a Twinkie rehearsal at Keith's house up in Alvarado Estates. To say that your music was an inspiration to a young musician like myself would be an understatement (I would go on to record albums for Casablanca and MCA Records and run several music companies). Some of my best San Diego memories include watching you at the Back Door conduct the Twinkies horn section and then bring back in the rest of the band. Truly unforgettable music.

Have you heard "Affairs of the Heart" by Marian Mozetich. When I listen to it I hear "Sequoia Shuffle" then he copies parts of Tchaikovsky 's 5th symphony. At least that's what my ears hear.

Been listening to a CD I like off and on for last 20 years. Never looked into who created the music until today. " Jazz au Lait " is the CD. Had no idea all songs were by the same person. Never heard of you. Just want you to know I will be looking up other songs by you.

Thanks, K2! Hope all is well. Juan, much gusto! anytime you want to talk about life in Central Mexico, just email me at jazzooo@aol.com, ok? It's been over 15 years since I bought a place here and I haven't looked back. San Miguel is a truly unique place. I did live near Vallarta for a couple of years--played with the wonderful bassist Roberto Falcón and drummer Chuy Estrada--and I loved many aspects of it there, but SMA has things going for it I haven't really seen anywhere else in Mexico yet. Hello Doug, I moved to L.A. around 1990 and have played drums in many types of bands (mostly rock). My wife and I have been checking out Mexico, mostly Puerto Vallarta, for more than 2 years now. We were recently in Guanajuato City for Dia De Los Muertos. At the end of April of this year we will be visiting San Miguel. We're thinking we like central Mexico a heck of a lot more vs the coast. We hope to be there within 2 years, or less. Hoping to meet some musicians/artists to jam with and make friends with. Looking forward to your reply, Juan

Hi Doug, I remember you from an old jazz bulletin board website circa 1998-99....can't recall the name of it now, but it was quite popular at the time. I remember you being based in San Diego. I didn't know that you relocated to Mexico. Wishing you the best.
